Yvonne (Roberts) Courtney

Yvonne Courtney of St. James, Mo. passed away at the Golden Living Center in St. James, Mo. on Monday, October 5, 2015.  She was 86 years, 8 months and 10 days of age.

Yvonne Roberts Courtney was born January 25, 1929 in St. James, Mo.  to her parents:  Wayne and Lena Laws Roberts.  

Yvonne attended school in St. James and graduated from St. James High School as the valedictorian in1947. Yvonne attended Springfield Business College for a few years before returning to St. James to work with the  Roll-A-Whirl carnival ride factory.  It is at that time when she met her future husband, Bruce T. Courtney. They were married on September 17, 1950 at the St. James Christian Church, with Rev.  Fred Barber officiating.

Shortly after they were married, Bruce was drafted in the US Army and was stationed in Louisiana and Texas.  During his absence, Yvonne worked for the International Shoe Company in St. James before joining Bruce at Wolters Air Force Base, Mineral Wells, Texas in 1951.  They returned to St. James in late 1952 when Bruce was discharged from the Army.  In 1953 Yvonne gave birth to their daughter, Cheri Le Courtney.  Yvonne went on to work for the City of St. James as the City Clerk, then for the IRS as a Customer Representative until she retired in1994.

Yvonne accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was a long time member of the St. James Christian Church.  Since her retirement, Bruce and Yvonne have traveled to various places in the United States and Europe to visit their daughter, Cheri, son-in-law, Dale and their granddaughter, Arpil.

Yvonne Courtney is survived by her husband of 65 years: Bruce T. Courtney of St. James, Mo.; daughter: Cheri Courtney Linebarger and husband Dale Linebarger of Arlington, Texas; one granddaughter: April Linebarger Smith and husband James Smith,

Preceding Yvonne Courtney in death is her parents: Wayne and Lena Laws Roberts.

Visitation for Yvonne Courtney will be held from 3 - 8 PM on  Wednesday, October 7, 2015   at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Mo.

Funeral Sevices will be conducted on Thursday, October 8, 2015  at 2 P.M. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Mo. with Rick Mosher officiating.   Pallbearers will be: Dennis Wilson, Bill Kirgan, Bob Wilson, Randy Verkamp, Ronnie Moreland and Mike Gann.  Burial will be in the St. James Cemetery in St. James, Mo.

The family requests memorials be made to the St. James Sports Club's Scout Programs.  Cards are available at the Jones Funeral Home.
