Harold James Burns Sr.

Harold James Burns, Sr. of St. James passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. He was 88 Years of age.

Harold James Burns, the son of the late Timothy J. and Loretta Skeahan Burns was born March 7, 1928 in Detroit, Michigian. 

Harold was united in marriage to Helen Damon on April 28, 1955; she entered into rest December 22, 1996.  On September 9, 2000, he was united in marriage to Beverly Jane Scheetz.        

                       
Harold James Burns Sr. is survived by his wife, Beverly Jane Burns of St. James; son, Timothy C. Burns and his wife, Vicki of St. Joseph, Mo.; daughter, Loretta I. Burns of St. Louis, MO; step children: Cynthia and Michael McGovern, Bryan McGovern and wife, Heather and Julia Radovcich and husband, Kirk;  grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; one son, Harold J. Burns, Jr., infant daughter and brother, Gerard Timothy Burns.

Mr. Burns was a member of Roman Catholic Church, and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus in which he was a Sir Knight, 4th degree Honor guard.  Harold was a career veteran with the U.S. Army obtaining the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major.  He served as an Intelligence Analyst. During his military career, he received The Legion Of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, and a Certificate of Achievement for Meritorious Service in connection with the Atomic Energy Tests at Eniwetok. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign War and a member of the local St. James VFW.  He was a longtime member of the Rolla Lions Club.

He will lie in state 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.  Rosary service will held at 5:30 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James, MO with Father Judge officiating.  Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Church with full military honors.  Pallbearers will be Scott Leuschen, Tim Burns, Terry Cossette, Ed Hornseu, Ryan Burns, Harold J. Burns III, Dave Neeley, and Bryan Cromwell.

Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus.
