Olive Blanche (Baxter) Hicks

Olive Blanche Hicks of St. James passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 in O’Fallon, Missouri.  She was 94 years of age.

Olive, the daughter of the late Emmett and Laura Palmer Baxter, was born February 13, 1922 in Belle, MO.  She was united in marriage to William Alfred, “Billy Al,” Hicks on July 21, 1943 in Belle, Missouri, and to this union, two children were born.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Hicks and wife, Joy of St. James, MO; her daughter, Donna Carron and husband, Mike of St. Charles, MO; six grandchildren:  Katie, Julie, Chad, Holly, Justin, and Ben; and nine great grandchildren:  Bryan, Alexus, Megan, Leyton, Carissa, McKenna, Landon, Ryleigh, and Brynlee.

She is preceded in death by her husband; two brothers:  Clarence and Charles Baxter; two sisters:  Opal Smith and Ora Keeney.

Olive was a humble, loving and compassionate mother.  She was a sweet friend to many, never saying  a bad word about anyone.  She always greeted you with a smile as she asked about your well being.  She was fun to be around; she added laughter to family and friend gatherings with her sense of humor.  She loved playing games with her grandchildren.  She loved baking, cooking and being with her grandchildren. After finishing high school, she worked in the secretarial field entering data. After marriage to "Billy Al", they lived in St. Louis where she worked at Rawlings as a piece worker and worked at Technicolor in St. Louis. After she lost the love of her life, she moved to St. James and worshiped with the brethren at the Highway E Church of Christ in Rolla. Olive was a very active person. She worked at Fosters Bakery for many years and for several years she work at the St. James Leader-Journal. Her greatest joy was Dennis and Donna and their spouses, who gently cared for her in her later years.

Olive Hicks will lie in state Monday evening from 6-8 P.M. December 5, 2016 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO

Funeral services for Olive Hicks will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Jones Funeral Home chapel with Mike McDowell officiating.  Pallbearers will be Chad Carron, Bill Baxter, Ron Jenkins, Larry Redden, Josh Kreger, and Jim Smith.  Interment will be in the Liberty Church of Christ Cemetery in Belle, MO.

Memorials may be made to the Little Prairie Bible Camp.
