Marie Mabel (Sexton) Thurman

Marie Mabel Thurman of St. James passed away Saturday November 25, 2017 at the Park Side Residential Care Center in Rolla, Mo. She was 96 years of age.

 

Marie Thurman was born July 1, 1921 in St. Louis the daughter of the late Clarence and Mabel Breese Sexton.

 

On June 7, 1946 in St. Louis she was united in marriage to James M Thurman. He enter into rest on November 9, 1995.

 

Mrs. Thurman is survived by her Son: Danial Neill and wife Doris of Rolla, Sister-In-Law Barbara Sexton of Rolla, along with two grandchildren Michael P. Neill and David Neill. She has two special great-grandchildren: Nathan and Michael, and many nieces and nephews.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother: John Sexton and a sister: Viola Nash.

 

Marie had a joyful spirit, she always had a smile. She was raised in St. Louis during the depression. Her grandfather was a Baptist Minister, but her parents never went to church, except for weddings and events. Her son and daughter-in-Law always took her to church at First Assembly in Rolla where she became a member. During the war, she worked as a riveter, and it was in that job that she met her husband Jim. Marie had a caring heart, besides raising Dan, Marie and Jim also raised two girls when her sister died. Marie was a widowed for over 22 years. They operated a gas station in Bourbon for many years before moving to Rolla. Marie moved to St. James after Jim passed away and attended the First Assembly of God in Rolla when her health permitted.

 

Marie Thurman will lie in state Tuesday November 28, 2017 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.

 

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday November 28, 2017 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James with Chuck Whitmier Officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at the Bacon Cemetery near Argo, Mo, Pallbearers will be Michael Neill, David Neill, Randy Steffens, Nathen Neill, Michael C. Neil and Mark Sexton. Memorials may be given to the Bacon Cemetery.

 

All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Mo.
