William Robert John

William “Bill” Robert John of Rolla, Missouri passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the St. James Living Center in St. James, Missouri. He was 83 years of age.

Bill, the son of the late William Leonard John and Kathryn (Wallace) Baker, was born August 3, 1939 in Cairo, IL. He attended and graduated from Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Indiana in 1957.

He was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Ballenger on September 8, 1962 in Southport, Indiana. They moved to Temple Terrace, Florida in 1963 where he attended Florida College.

He studied to become a gospel preacher and began preaching for several congregations in the area. He served the Lord in this capacity for 46 years preaching in several states to include Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin and Missouri. He also preached out of the United States in Canada and Cat Island, Bahamas.

After retiring from preaching, he worked at many part-time jobs in St. James and Rolla, Missouri. Bill enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games and being with his family.

Bill is survived by his wife, Peggy of Rolla, MO; daughters: Susan Morris and husband, Larry of Rolla, MO and Sara Sleep and husband, David of Omaha, NE; brother, Gary John and wife, Cindy of Greenwood, IN; sister, Kerry Currier of Vincennes, In; six grandchildren: Joshua, and wife Jessiqa Morris, Julie, and husband Dustin Felan, Jennifer Morris, Jessica Morris, Justin Sleep, and Michaela Sleep; and eight great-grandchildren: Abigail Morris, Benjamin Morris, Elijah Morris, Addalye Felan, Layla Felan, Grahym Felan, Olyver Felan, and Evelynn Elliott.

Bill is preceded in death by his father and step-mother, William and Lucille John; mother, Kathryn Baker; daughter, Sheryl John and brother, Fred Powers.

A private family funeral was held on March 10, 2023 at 11 a. m. with a graveside service following at St. James Cemetery. All arrangements were under the direction of Jones Funeral Home, St. James, Missouri.
