Velma Melville Obituary

Velma Melville was the daughter of the late Benjamin Gibson and Edna Goodman.  Velma was born July 29, 1945 in Franklin County, Missouri and passed away 11/26/2023 in Phelps County, Missouri.
Velma was raised in St. James, Missouri by her father. At the age of 22, she moved to San Diego, California.  She married Donald Melville and raised her 6 children; she worked as management for a local hospital for almost 20 years before opening her own business with her then-husband, Donald Melville.  Velma continued to run V. Melville Board and Care Homes from 1993 to 2020; she decided to retire in 2020 and move back to Missouri for retirement.

In 2010, Velma Melville met Ralph “Ed” Brooks, and in 2012, they were married and enjoyed life together.  They enjoyed traveling together and being with the children and grandchildren.

Velma always enjoyed spending quality time with her family and reminiscing memories of her childhood.  She enjoyed watching baseball and also watching her grandson play baseball.  She was a faithful Christian lady who loved her God; she liked watching Charles Stanley every Sunday morning before attending church.

Velma is survived by four children: Richard and Toni Melville (St. James, MO), Robin and Tom Castillo (St. James, MO), Lisa and Andy Redmond (Rosamond, CA) and Sara Bolin (Rolla, MO); 13 grandchildren: Brendon Andres (Bloomington, IL), Laton Melville (St. James, MO), Taylor Melville (Rolla, MO), Thomas Castillo (San Diego, CA), Alex Castillo (San Diego, CA), Danny Castillo (St. James, MO), Natalee Castillo (Norristown, PA), Steven Foster (Ramona, CA), Cody Foster (Meridian, ID), Jaynae Carver (Alpine, CA), Zoe Redmond (Rosamond, CA), Sadie Melville, and Connor Bolin (Rolla, MO); and also 13 great-grandchildren.
