Sharon Helen (Waldron) Underwood

Sharon Helen Underwood of St. James passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. She was 79 years of age.

Sharon Helen Underwood, the daughter of the late Harold and Helen Bullock Waldron, was born July 28, 1942, in St. Louis, MO.

On October 2, 1989, in Harrison, AR, she was united in marriage to Don Underwood.  He entered into rest on July 4, 2011.

She is survived by her beloved children:  Kimberly Lackey and husband Carl of Rolla, MO and Brian Curtis of St. James, MO; grandchildren: Anthony Lackey of Buckeye, AZ, Kolt Lackey and wife, Dawana of St James. Amber House of Bowling Green, KY and Andrew Royal of Rolla, Mo. and great-grandchildren:  Johnathan Lackey, Chloe Walter, and Joey Royal.

Sharon was a loving mom and grandma.  She loved to be around people, and she always had an encouraging smile and an infectious laugh. She enjoyed cooking for family and was well known for her yummy sugar cookies and her "special ingredient" ham salad. She enjoyed being outside, especially gardening and fishing in the farm ponds.  She looked forward to baseball season, and she loved watching her Cardinals, especially Yadi,  Visiting the Smokies with Don and taking her family on a cruise were two of her most memorable vacations.  Sharon was a custodian at the Missouri Veterans Home for over 15 years. Sharon served her country in the United States Air Force and received many awards and medals. In earlier years, she worked at Sears in Rolla, MO, and Scattered Oaks in St. James where she was adored by the residents.

She was a long-time member of the Broadway Baptist Church and spent a great deal of time in the WMU, cantatas, Vacation Bible Schools, and cooking for church dinners.

Her final 2 yrs were in the Mo Veterans Home. She made many friends and sure enjoyed her bingo.

Visitation will be 12:00- 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 12, 2021, with Gary Lane and Karen Alden officiating.  Pallbearers will be Kolt Lackey, Johnathan Lackey, Andrew Royal, Jason King, Terry King, and Janelle DeClue.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Royal and Robert Ayala. Graveside Services with Full Military Honors will be at Macedonia Cemetery. Memorial may be given to the Missouri Veterans Home Assistance League.

All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.
