Rodney Ray Rumley

Rodney Ray Rumley, age 65, of St. James, Missouri died peacefully at his home, on Saturday, September 11, 2021, surrounded by his family. 

Rodney was born on June 29, 1956, to Ray and Mary Rumley (Blodgett) in Leon, Iowa.  He married Katherine (Kathy) Osmon on December 3, 1983.  They were happily married for almost 38 years.

Rodney was a dedicated employee of Wal-Mart Transportation for 30 years.  He retired in March 2019.   He was respected by all who worked alongside him and was a driving force in the Wal-Mart Truckers Reunion.

Rodney was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, St. James.  He stayed busy greeting members and visitors on Sunday mornings.  Whether handing out bulletins or offering elevator use, he was ever mindful of keeping you safe.  He ushered and filled in serving communion when needed.  He was involved in the upkeep of facilities and used the COVID hiatus as an opportunity to give the sanctuary a long-overdue painting.  Help where help is needed, he was an all-around “do-it-all” kind of guy.

One of the great joys of his life was spending time with his nieces and nephews.  He loved teasing, playing games, and vacationing with them.  He loved watching Cardinal baseball, taking his beloved dog, Brownie, for walks, and watching westerns on TV. 

Along with his wife Kathy, Rodney is survived by his mother, Mary of St. James; sister Raeleen Durham and her husband James of Lebanon, Mo; Russell Rumley of Moline, Illinois.  He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Ray, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Rodney Rumley will lie in state 11:00-1:00 PM Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, September 17, 2021, at Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
