Robert Kenneth Matthews

Robert Kenneth Matthews of Newburg, MO passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.  He was 64 years of age.

He was born September 29, 1956 in St Louis, MO, the son of the late Robert and Theresa Reinwald Matthews.

Survivors include Robert’s significant other:  Karen Wann of Newberg, MO; Sons: Billy Matthews (Wendy) of Lake Land, FL and Robert E. Matthews (Ashley) of Camendon, MO; Daughters: Tannie Sauers (Robert) of St. James, MO and Kristyn Matthews and Mikey Chambers of St. James, MO;  Sisters: Brenda Chambers (Don) of Vichy, MO, Linda Peachey of West Plains, MO and Shelia Otis (Russ) of Vichy, MO;  8 grandchildren: Cassie, Kialeigh, Alexis, Alexa, Christian, Dalton, Brooke and Hynleigh and one great-grandson: Oliver. He also had many nieces, nephews & cousins that he cherished deeply. 

Robert loved to work with his hands.   He was a master craftsman and did a lot of custom wood working in the area.  Some of his work could be seen inside of the Missouri Veterans Home entrance.  Beautiful handcrafted Oak Pillars adorn the foyer.  His family has many items he has built that they will cherish. Robert worked at the Missouri Veterans Home for 13 years; he understood the care and dedication for our great veterans.  Not only was Robert a great craftsman, he is known to make the best French toast in the world.  The recipe is a family secret that only a few know.  Grilling was another favorite hobby of his. He loved to have the family gather and enjoy his barbeque.  If you ever visited his home, you would see his collection of Wolves.  He has collected them for years. He loved life and loved his family.  Robert lived his life through opportunity, to serve with perseverance and patience.  He will be sadly missed.

Robert will lie in state at 11:00 AM Saturday morning, February 27, 2021 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James. The family wants your attendance in attire to be casual and to enjoy visiting with family and friends.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon, February 27, 2021 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James with Gary Lane officiating. Scattering of the ashes will be at Robert’s favorite location.  Memorials may be made to the Matthews family; envelopes are available at the Jones Funeral Home.
