Omer Jones III Obituary

Omer Howard Jones III of St. Charles, MO, passed away quietly at his home on Sunday morning April 25, 2021. He was 67 years of age.

He was born February 22, 1954 in Washington, MO the son of the late Omer Howard II and Elma Lee Carron Jones.

He was united in marriage to Judi Hassebroek in Sullivan, MO, and were blessed with two children.

Surviving him are his wife Judi, daughter Annie Lancaster and husband Jon, son Jared Jones and his wife Shelly, and two grandchildren, Kendall and Tony all of St. Charles, MO,  two sisters, Paula Sue Miller of Republic, MO, and Karen Biermann and her husband Steve of Washington, MO; a brother, Richard Jones and his wife Deanna of St. James, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Katherine Ann Jones, brother-in-law Richard Miller, sister-in-law Janet Kincaid.

O.H. grew up in Belle, Mo, when everyone knew everyone and most were related.  He grew up in the family funeral business and had many duties around the funeral home including driving the ambulance, helping on funerals and delivering flowers to the home after the funeral. After he graduated high school, he drove a station wagon previously used as an ambulance to Kentucky to attend mortuary school, where he met Judi Hassebroek, which unknown to them at the time, would be the beginning of a lifetime as they would later become husband and wife. After graduating from Mortuary School, he returned to Belle to operate the funeral home in the Belle location and the rest of the family moved to St. James where they opened the St. James location. The Belle funeral home was later sold, and O.H. joined the family in St. James. He then pursued the love of his life Judi Hassebroek in Sullivan, MO. After their marriage, he moved to Sullivan to raise his family and help operate his wife’s family funeral home, Hassebroek Memorial Chapel in Sullivan. When the Sullivan funeral home was sold, they moved their family to St. Charles where he worked for Baue Funeral Home and later for Sygar Funeral Home. He was well known for his knowledge in embalming and restoration, which was passed down from his father, as well as his father-in-law, and passed down to his brother, Richard. He enjoyed family outings to the lake and attending their kid’s functions, he enjoyed target shooting, going to the Vichy Deer Camp for a week at a time and staying in the Tipton Hilton, which was a two-room building.  It was tastily adorned with 12 twelve different kind of paneling. If you were around O.H. very long you would enjoy a very stout heart-felt discussion about any subject. He was never at a loss for words. He always stayed on the side of what was right regardless if it might offend you. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
