Norma Jean (Phelps) Towell

Norma Jean Towell of Rolla, MO passed away Friday, November 26, 2021, with her son and daughter by her side in Springfield, MO. She was 75 years of age.  She was fortunate to be able to spend the last months of her life in the loving care of her son and daughter. 

She was born July 29, 1946, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Oma Marie James Moreland Phelps.

Norma Towell is survived by her former husband David Ellis Towell, from this union two children were born, David Allen Towell of Springfield, Mo., and Lisa Towell Lilja and husband Rick Lilja of Eagle Lake, Tx. She is further survived by one brother Vernon Eugene Phelps of Vida, Mo, and two sisters Donitta Kay Yowell of Rolla and Neoma Darlene Robinson and husband Tim of Rolla, Mo., along with 2 grandchildren Gary and Melina, and 2 great-grandchildren Kirsten and Payzlee. She was proceeded in death by her great-grandson Bently. 

Norma Towell worked at the hospital in Rolla for over 20 years, before that she was in housekeeping at the University. She loved hummingbirds and loved the St. Louis Cardinals. She enjoyed watching many Cardinal games with her son David. For her 75th birthday, David took her to St. Louis where they unknowingly were captured on television numerous times throughout the game.  She always had a smile for her favorite player “"Waino” Adam Wainwright. She enjoyed several trips to Las Vegas with her son and friends, where she enjoyed the food and an occasional win of the slot machine. She enjoyed going to country music concerts with her son and friends as well.  She enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Norma Towell will lie in state at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO. Burial will be in the Macedonia Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Chip Miller, Gert Bandowski,  Richard Bandowski, David E. Towell, Kaleb Aungerer, and Gary McCracken.  Musical selections will be  Dancing in the Sky and Conway Twitty The Rose. Memorial may be made to the Rolla Humane Society.
