Leland Joseph Underwood

Leland Joseph Underwood of St. James passed away Friday, November 5, 2021, at the St. James Living Center. He was 86 years of age.

Leland Underwood was born November 11, 1934, in Rolla, MO to the late Samuel Edward and Thelma Inez Wools Underwood.

On October 10, 1959, in St. James, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Norris. She entered into rest on March 26, 2018.

He is survived by two sons: Randy Underwood and wife Joyce of St. James and Gary Underwood and wife Debi of St. James, along with two grandchildren Lee Gardiner and Mario Ramirez. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

He worked for McDonald Douglas in St. Louis for many years in later years he worked as a drill press Operator at the Switzers Plant in Rolla and retired from the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. Leland loved the outdoors. He enjoyed cutting wood with his sons and family. One of Leland’s projects was buying a 3-story house and removing the top two floors and moved it to and lived in it for many years. He loved to build and using timbers from old houses and build homes for his two sons. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Leland Underwood will lay in state Saturday 12noon November 6th, 2021 at the Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 6th, 2021 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO. with Brother Craig Rippy officiating. Music will be provided by Jena Huizinga. Pallbearers will be Phil Branstetter, Steve Branstetter, Justin Hodge, Doug Daniels, Clifford Keasling Jr. and Rick Huizinga. Burial will be beside his wife at the Underwood Cemetery near the family home.
