June Pender

June Pender of St. James passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022 at her home in St. James, MO. She was 89 years of age.

June, the daughter of the late Edwin and Naomi Matlock Haacke, was born July 3, 1932 in St. James, MO. She was united in marriage to Richard Sayer, and then she was united in marriage to Dr. Peter Pender in July, 1977.

She is survived by her daughters:  Sue Staples and friend, Tommy Plank of St. James, Cindy Sullivan and husband, Richard of St. James, Cathy Foust and husband, Don of New Florence, MO and Deidre Callinan and husband, Shaun of Milton, MA; son, Christopher Pender of Columbia, MO; grandchildren:  Jennifer, Josh, Adam, and Rebecca; great grandchildren:  Duncan, Colin, Haylee, Paisley, Paxton and Lenora and sisters:  Jane Pilotte, Ruth Durrett, Janet Douglas, Naomi Amos and Linda Barnett all of St. James.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Sayer; husband, Dr. Peter Pender; grandson, Benjamin Sullivan; brothers:  Bill Haacke, Edwin Wayne Haacke and Layne Haacke and sister, Reva Auten.

June was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved having family dinners, and she was a wonderful cook.  Her prime rib being a family favorite. She and her family enjoyed their vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks. She loved hosting her grandchildren as well as the grandchildren loved visiting her and enjoying swimming, boating and fishing.  June graduated from St. James High School in 1954; she received her registered nursing degree from Deaconess Hospital.  She owned and operated Cedar Knoll Nursing Home in St. James since April 1984.  She loved caring for her residents, and they loved her. 

June will lie in state 10:00 AM Monday, May 23, 2022 at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.  Pallbearers will be Don Foust, Joshua Foust, Richard Sullivan, Matt Pellegrin, Adam Staples and Ed Pilotte.  Burial will be in the Matlock Cemetery in St. James, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials to the Matlock Cemetery.
