John N. Parkins Jr. of Winfield, Kansas formerly of High Gate, Mo passed away at his home Friday morning May 28, 2021. He was 87 years of age.

 

He was born July 6, 1933, in Rena, West Virginia the son of the late John and Vesta Violet Reynolds Parkins.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife Betty Ann Parkins, who entered into rest July 3, 2013, brothers, Herman, Fred, Jay Permenter, and Lemon Estell Parkins. Sisters, Ivy Russell, Mae Hedrick, Alberta Smith, Ethel Neidert, and Catherine During.

 

John is survived by four sons, Steve Parkins, Joe Parkins, of Kansas, Doug Parkins of Illinois, and David Parkins of Fergusson, MO. Along with two Daughters, Denise Ann Shefeild of Winfield, Kansas, and Deana Parkins of O'Fallon, MO, one Sister, Eunice Neidert of St. James. Along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

 

John Parkins grew up at High Gate, Mo., was drafted into the military and served his country in the United States Army. After he got out of the service he started to work on car transmissions. He was a master transmission rebuilder and received many awards throughout his career. He worked at Coleman Transmission in St. Peters for 45 years and also worked for Precision Transmission in St. Charles. After he retired, he enjoyed helping raise grandchildren, and after his wife, Betty was in poor health, he helped take care of her. He enjoyed fishing and had many fishing trips with Uncle Jimmy and had many fishing tails to pass on to his grandchildren. John will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

John Parkins will lie in state from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jun 3, 2021, at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.

 

Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2021, at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James with Gene Scantlin officiating. Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Burial with full military honors will be conducted at the High Gate Cemetery at the family plot.
