James Edmund Hampton of St. James, MO passed away at his home Tuesday, February 23, 2021. He was 87 years of age.
James, the son of the late Harvel Charles, Sr. and Barbara Ruby Smith Hampton, was born September 27, 1933, in Annapolis, MO. He was united in marriage to Peggy Louise Jones on March 24, 1962, in St. Louis, MO.
James is survived by his wife, Peggy of St. James; three daughters: Roxana Gray and husband, Mark of St. James, MO, Lori Terstriep and husband, Greg of Bourbon, MO and Jamie Jones and husband, Robert of Rolla, MO; two brothers: Jack Hampton of Annapolis, MO and Harvel Hampton, Jr and wife, Cheryl of Farmington, MO; three sisters: Norma Gantzer of Ocala, FL, Joyce Dellazizzo of Lauderdale Lakes, FL and Linda Scaggs and husband, Charles of Annapolis, MO; five grandchildren: Joshua Gray and wife, Lauren; Deidra Brinker and husband, Eric; Amanda Lindemann, and husband Adam; Abbey Jones and Gracie Jones; six great-grandchildren: Noah and Jonathan Gray; Audrey, Henry and Baby Brinker and Charlie and Millie Lindemann.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Harvel Sr. and Barbara, three sisters: Inez Eaton, Laverta Crow, and Nellie Scaggs.
Jim enjoyed rooting for his beloved Cardinals, Fishing, Hunting, completing puzzles to give as gifts, and finding moments to make special memories with his family. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and received the National Defense Service Medal. While in the Air Force he served with the 41st Air Rescue Squadron. He will be greatly missed by this family, friends, and neighbors.
James Hampton will lie in state 1:30-3:30 PM Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.
Funeral Service with Full Military Honors will be conducted at 3:30 PM Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Don Carson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Gray, Greg Terstriep, Robert Jones, Joshua Gray, Eric Brinker, and Adam Lindemann. Full Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and the St. James VFW Post 5608. Patriot Guards Riders will provide a Flag Line to honor Mr. Hampton's faithful service to his country. Memorials contributions are suggested to the Church of God in St. James, MO.
