Douglas Arnold Dowler, 63, of Rolla, passed away at his residence on Thursday, November 4, 2021.
Doug was born in Decatur, Illinois on October 22, 1958, to Delmar and Margaret (Cupp) Kottwitz. He was adopted in 1971 by Glyn and Lorena Dowler of St. James. He is preceded in death by his father, Delmar, and mother, Margaret Kottwitz, and adopted parents Glyn and Lorena Dowler, step-sister Carole Romans, and his brother Phillip Kottwitz. Doug is survived by his brothers: Eldon Kottwitz, and his wife Renee, of Eudora, Kansas; Delmar Keith Kottwitz Jr., and his wife Linda of Columbia; and his sister, Helen Thompson, and her husband Kevin, of Hutto, Texas; as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He graduated from John F. Hodge High School in St. James in 1977. One summer was spent as an intern in Meramec Springs. He loved working with the fish hatchery. Doug was a volunteer for the Rolla Fire Department for several years. One of his favorite events was the Lions Club Fourth of July fireworks. Without formal training, Doug had a God-given talent with wiring and electronics. He was able to add devices to vehicles or create useful gadgets. Doug enjoyed sharing his skills with anyone.
A graveside memorial will be held at the Bland Union Cemetery in Bland, Missouri on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Heifer International. Their website is heifer.org.
