Dorothy June Runtz

June 20, 1931 ~ February 8, 2022 (age 90)

Obituary

Dorothy June Runtz of St. James passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at her home in St. James.  She was 90 years of age.

She was born June 20, 1931, in Custer, South Dakota, the daughter of the late Earl and Helen Bown Sturdevant.

On October 25, 1952, in Alton, Illinois, she was united in marriage to Norbert William Runtz Sr. He entered into rest September 7, 2000.

Mrs. Runtz is survived by her son, Norbert William Runtz Jr. of Rolla; three daughters: Belinda Althage and husband Ronald of St. James, Katrina Macey of St. James and June Midgett and husband Mickey of St. James; two sisters:  Nancy Holloway and Betty Phieffer both of Salem; one brother, Donald Sturdevant of Cherryville; three grandchildren: Benjamin Earl Runtz and wife Erin, Serena Cathryne Macey and Joshua Taylor Midgett and wife Paris; great-grandchildren: Jacob, Jordan, Josiah, Jazzy and Trinity and two cousins who live in Somerset, England: Dave Bown and Maureen Morgan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister Earline Hall; three brothers: Gilbert, Charles, and Gerald Sturdevant, and one grandson-In-Law Mark Macey.

When Dorothy was growing up, she lived in many states as her parents moved many times before they returned to Alton, Illinois.  Alton is where she met and married the love of her life. They enjoyed 48 years together.  Dorothy's life changed after Norbert passed away.  She missed him greatly.  Grieving his loss seemed to encompass her life; she had difficulty letting family and friends help her.  In earlier years, she enjoyed sewing and quilting. Raising four children, she always had something to sew and something to mend.  She liked to quilt; she made many quilts and cherished heirlooms. The grandchildren remember Grandma working crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp. In the summer months, she loved canning fruit and vegetables to enjoy for the winter months.  Dorothy also loved her chickens. She enjoyed watching them and enjoyed the eggs they produced. Often, the family enjoyed a big Sunday chicken dinner. Dorothy now enjoys life again with her beloved husband, Norbert, and those who passed on before her.  She will be sadly missed.
