Donald L. “Don” Jones, formerly of St. James, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at his home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was 89 years of age.
Don, the son of the late Oscar Allen and Ada Caulley Jones, was born April 11, 1933 in St. James, MO. He was united in marriage to Bettie Bowen on September 11, 1955 at the First Church of God in St. James, MO.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie of Hot Springs, AR; son, Steve Jones of Hot Springs, AR; daughter, April Hunt and husband, Coby of Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren: Tiara Elizabeth Jones of Torrance, CA, Caprice Lorren Jones of Hot Springs, AR, and Zachary Matthews of Hot Springs, AR; great grandchildren: Christian Gomez and Haley Underhill and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Willam A. Jones, Russell W. Jones, Robert A. Jones, and Oscar L. Jones; sisters: Edna M. Kuehn, Beulah Hemme, Dorothy Zehnder, Ruth Jones, and Blanche Jones (infant).
Don and his brother Oscar owned and operated Jones Barber Shop for several years in the 60’s and 70’s. He loved horses and trained Tennessee Walking Horses with his partner and friend Clyde Frey; they were both passionate about that particular breed of horses, showing them in local TWH shows. Don played guitar since he was a young man.
He played alongside Austin Wood on a weekly radio show in Rolla in the 1950’s. In the 80’s Don played guitar with the Braschlers at their theatre in Branson. After a move to Hot Springs, Arkansas, Don played in several different downtown venues, the monthly Gallery walk, and his favorite, the Caring Place, where elder adults would dance to the music he and his friend Ray would play for them. He was a loving father, uncle, cousin, Grandfather and husband and will be dearly missed by family and many friends.
Don will lie in state 6-8 PM Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Jones Funeral Home with Bro. Don Carson officiating. Pallbearers will be Coby Hunt, Larry Romine Norman Spurgeon, Keith Hughes, Connie Baldwin and Mark Benton. Burial will be in the Bowen Cemetery in St. James, MO.
