Daniel, the son of the late Francis J. and Laurine (Miles) King, was born May 3, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Rosie Ryther on February 14, 1975 in Sullivan, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie of Cook Station, Missouri; their children: Mark King (Katie) of Wildwood, Missouri; Christopher King (Laura) of Orlando, Florida; Linda Wood (Paul) of Altus, Oklahoma; Laurie Harris (Jay) of Springfield, Missouri; Erik Kemper (Cindy) of Long Beach, California; Jeffrey Kemper (Teresa) of Crystal City, Missouri; and Samantha Holt (Tom) of Ballwin, Missouri; twenty-one grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson; brother, Dick King; sisters: Rose Tod, Bernice McCulloch, Ruth Milheiser, and Frannie Funderburk; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ronald and Emma Ryther.
Daniel loved being in the outdoors; he enjoyed grabbing his fishing tackle and heading off to Meramec Springs or Montauk State Park to catch a stringer of fish. He even enjoyed fishing trips to Canada. He and his wife volunteered at Montauk campsite and cooked for campers. They also hosted family reunions at Montauk. He was as zealous about helping people as he was about planning and running the show. He was a wonderful cook. He always used the most savory blend of seasonings, and he tenderized the meat to perfection. His family and friends loved dining on his specialties: brisket, ribs, biscuits and gravy, ham and beans, chili, and squirrel and dumplings. He was a local favorite for catering special events.
The farm that he shared with Rosie held a special place in his heart. He loved raising his cattle and gaiting horses. He enjoyed the many trail rides held around the community.
Daniel served his country in the United States Army for 2 years; he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He worked in the insurance business as a salesman and a manager.
