Clifton Lee Frey of St. James, MO passed away Tuesday August 24, 2021 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was 77 years of age.
Clifton Frey was born in Rolla, MO on April 18, 1944, the son of the late Clifford and Beulah Crum Frey.
On December 20, 1970 in Vienna, Missouri, Clifton was united in marriage to Silvia Diane Williams.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, two sons: Robert Merrow and wife, Karen of Waldren AR, Sam Merrow of Washington state; two daughters: Alicia Gabel and husband, Scott of St. James, MO, and Tammy Conaway and husband, Mike of St. James, MO; three Grandchildren: Seth Frey, Hunter Frey, and Elaina Tanner and husband, Mike of St. James, MO. Along with two Great-Grandchild, Tyler Matlock, and Lily Anne Frey. He is further survived by nieces and nephews and other relatives. And a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Melvin and Paul Frey, and sister Jean Dalgren.
Clifton was a native of St. James. He volunteered with the fire department for many years and joined when he was 17 years old. Clifton Served the United States Air Force and worked as a engine mechanic, was honorable discharged on March 18, 1966. After he returned home, he worked for his dad, digging graves and hauling creek gravel. Later in years his dad sold the business to Oscar Jones and he started his own business operating a backhoe and selling gravel. His father being a minister, Clifton followed his father footsteps and became a minister for several years, and preached where his dad preached and owned the building, but after his mother died, he sold the building to another congregation. He loved to read and had a big collection of Louis Lamour books. Clifton loved John Wayne and had most all of his movies. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday September 11, 2021 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO, with Stephen Brubaker officiating. Burial will be in the Wishon Cemetery.
