William Franklin "Willie" Eickhorst, a beloved husband, family man, and devoted servant of his community and faith, passed away quietly on May 23, 2026, in St. James, Missouri, with his caregivers by his side. Born on July 28, 1933, in St. James, Missouri, Willie’s life was a rich tapestry woven through decades of dedication, service, and love.
Willie grew up in St. James and attended school there, laying the foundation for a life deeply connected to his hometown. His career began with three decades of work at the St. James Utility Company, owned by Jack Bartruff. Following the company's sale to the city, Willie transitioned to work for the local phone company, where he continued his steadfast commitment to supporting the community around him.
A self-taught craftsman, Willie had a remarkable talent for fixing and building almost anything. Whether it was building motors, repairing cars, or crafting model airplanes, he brought ingenuity and heart to every project. Among his many passions was flying model airplanes—often at Vichy Airport and Meramec Springs—where his favorite plane was a Cessna 150 that he kept at Cuba Airport. His love for model airplanes was a source of joy, illustrated by tales such as losing sight of one in fog only to discover it dodging cars on the interstate. Trips with his wife Shirley to Branson were a special time when Willie would build model airplanes, sharing quiet joy in his hobby and their travels.
Willie’s generosity was well-known; he worked tirelessly at the family gas station and parts house, often assisting travelers off the interstate, regardless of their means. His willingness to help extended beyond his family and friends, reflecting a larger spirit of service. He faithfully served his Lord as a member of the Finance Board at the First Assembly of God in St. James, attending services regularly and only missing when health prevented him. His commitment to his community also led him to serve as a City alderman and as a past member of the St. James Masonic Lodge 270 A.F. & A.M.
Willie's life was one of steadfast dedication—to his family, his faith, and his community. Though he sometimes expressed frustration when projects didn’t go as planned, those close to him knew this to be an indication of his high standards and passion for doing things right.
He was preceded in death by his parents Julius F. and Zelma B. Conaway Eickhorst; his precious wife and companion of 74 years, Shirley Eickhorst of 74 years, who just recently passed March 20th, 2026, his sons, Larry and Bill Eickhorst; his granddaughter Elizabeth Anne Eickhorst; his brother Jim Eickhorst; and his sister Wilda Spencer.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons Gary Eickhorst (Irina Borisova) of Lake Lotawana, Missouri, and Jeff Eickhorst of Steelville, Missouri; his two daughters-in-law, Carolyn Eickhorst of Holts Summit, Missouri, and Patricia Eickhorst of Cuba, Missouri. He was a proud grandfather to Jonathan (Stacey) Eickhorst of New Bloomfield, Missouri; Stephen Eickhorst of Holts Summit, Missouri; Jessica (Mark) Pinnell of Cuba, Missouri; Abby (Reilly) Pollard of Prairie Village, Kansas; and Ethan (Alisha) Eickhorst of Kansas City, Missouri. Willie’s legacy extends to his great-grandchildren Christian (Sydni) Eickhorst, Jacob (Rachel) Eickhorst, Chelsea Pinnell, Miranda Pinnell, Finneas Pollard; and four great-great-grandchildren: William, Samson, Oaklyn, and Jensen Eickhorst.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law: Chalice Pruett of Holts Summit, Missouri; brothers and sisters-in-law Charles (Emmadeen) Eickhorst, Floyd (Earlene) Eickhorst, Danny (Ruby) Eickhorst, and Joe (Brenda) Eickhorst; sister Leoma Smith and brother-in-law Dennis; as well as his loving caregivers Jessica (granddaughter), Brittney, Kasondra, Michelle, and Lucy, along with his precious puppy and faithful companion Sissy, also many nieces and nephews who fondly remember his kindness.
Willie was a man who loved his wife, family, and the Lord above all. His life exemplified dedication, humility, and generosity, marked by an enduring willingness to serve others. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
