Viola Underwood passed away Sunday July 8, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in St James. She was 90 years 9 months and 28 days of age.

Viola was born September 10, 1916 the daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Sorrell) Rhodes.

She was united in marriage to Ira Leslie Underwood on August 12, 1936, He entered into rest May 24, 1979., one son was born to this union.

Viola is survived by one son: Donald and his wife Sharon of Rolla, Mo. one granddaughter Pam Fann of St. James one grandson Danny Underwood and wife Barbara of Rolla. Five Grandchildren: Daniel Underwood of Rolla Katrina Underwood, Natasha Underwood of Rolla, Terry Fann of St. James and Kevin Fann of St. James, along with a host of friends.

Viola was a loving mother, grandmother and great mother, she loved being a housewife. Viola worked at the Veterans Home in St. James and RiceStix Factory for many years. She always helped others in her community when needed and loved her church. She joined the HighGate Baptist Church April 28, 1929 at the age of 13 being baptized in a near by creek. In February 1949 she moved her membership to the Christian Church in St. James.

Viola is preceaded in death by her parents, Husband, and one Sister Effie Rhodes, who entered into rest April 11, 1999, and one great grandson Nathan Underwood, who passed away May 25, 2007.

Services
Viola will lie in state Monday July 9, 2007 from 6-8 pm at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.

Funeral Service will be conducted 2 pm Tuesday July 10, 2007 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James with Aaron Jeffers officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at the Underwood Cemetery. Memorial may be given to the St James Christian Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.
