Shirley G. Shaw, née Skaggs, was born on January 1, 1950, in Rockford, Illinois. On June 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, she peacefully departed in St. Louis, Missouri. Her life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and devotion.
Shirley was a nurturing presence, her home a sanctuary of laughter and warmth for all who knew her. Her steadfast love transcended distance and challenge, offering comfort in difficult times and joy in happier moments.
Her enduring partnership with her beloved spouse, Carl "Shorty" Arthur, built a home filled with warmth and mutual respect. Together, they exemplified deep and enduring love.
Shirley’s legacy continues through her children and family: Michael Shaw of Gerald, Missouri; Timothy Arthur (Emily) of Rolla, Missouri; and Mickey Arthur (Brittney Gillean) of Greenville, Indiana. Brother: Frankie Skaggs (Vickie) of Owensville, Missouri; Sisters: Charleen Skaggs (Charlie) of Sullivan, Missouri, Melody Inkie of Bland, Missouri, Brenda Curtis (Leo) of Owensville, Missouri, and Bert Standfield of Union, Missouri. Her influence shines in their laughter, courage, and care for one another.
She is preceded in death by her sisters: Lucille Valley, Judy Koetting, and Arlene Valley. Shirley shared profound connections with them, and their memories are forever intertwined.
Shirley served her country in the United States Army Reserves for 23 years.
To know Shirley was to feel her warmth, empathy, and kindness. Her patient encouragement and wisely chosen words left a lasting impact. Her legacy lives on in the stories shared at family gatherings and the personal triumphs of those she inspired.
Shirley’s memory remains a guiding light for her family and friends. They mourn her passing but celebrate a life lived with dignity, humor, and love.

A Memorial Service with with Full Military Honors, to celebrate Shirley's life will be 1:00 PM Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Burial of her ashes will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, at a later date
