Obituary

Ronald Kieth Giesler, Sr. of St. James, MO passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022.  He was 94 years of age. Ronald, the son of the late Roy Russell Giesler and Flora Elva (Warner) Giesler, was born December 5, 1928, in Vichy, MO.  He was united in marriage to Retha Venitta Chambers on September 23, 1950 in Salem, Arkansas.  To this union, four children were born. Ronald is survived by his children Kimberly Giesler, Ronald Giesler, Jr., Tami Felan all of St. James, MO and Cheryl Moreland of Rolla, MO; seven grandchildren: Steffanie Rogers, Justin Gruver and wife Tanna, Waide Moreland, Misty Boatright and husband Cecil, Dani Sousa and husband Josh, Dustin Felan  and wife Julie, Chelsea Simmons and husband Ryan; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother Raymond Giesler of Rolla, MO; sisters Geneva and husband Bill Feeler of Rolla, MO and Lylis Hargrove of St. James, MO; sister-in-law Rosemary Chambers of St. James, MO; brother-in-law George Barta of Bloomington, MN; along with other family members and friends. Ronald was preceded in death by his wife Venitta; parents Roy Russell and Elva Giesler; parents-in-law Ernest and Mabel Chambers; one brother, Roy Giesler, Jr., and wife Freddie Lou; one sister, Evelyn Barta; brothers-in-law Donald Chambers and J.C. Hargrove; and grandson-in-law Will Rogers. Ronald graduated from Vienna High School in 1946.  Shortly after graduating, he was invited to tryout for the St. Louis Cardinals but instead, he joined the United States Army and fought in the Korean War where he served our country honorably.  While in the Army, he was a featherweight champion boxer.  After returning home, he worked for International Shoe Company for 22 years until the company closed, worked cattle and later worked for West Asphalt.  Ronald was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He retired in May of 2022 from bowling after 71+ years, enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing ping pong, fast pitch softball and coaching women's softball.  He also enjoyed gardening, especially raising and canning tomatoes.  Ronald and Venitta made ceramics together, he would pour and fire the slip and she would paint them.  Ronald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Visitation is from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Jones Funeral Home, St. James, MO.  Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Barrett Payne officiating.  Memorials may be given to Southard Cemetery in St. James, MO. All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.
