Obituary

Ricki Amin Nash, affectionately known by family and friends as “Moody,” passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on June 8, 2026, at the age of 48.

Ricki was born on August 15, 1977, in East St. Louis, Illinois. A proud son of East St. Louis and St. Louis, Ricki carried his hometown pride with him throughout his life. He was a devoted sports fan who especially loved football and basketball. He faithfully supported the St. Louis Cardinals, the Rams, the Los Angeles Lakers, and was a devoted admirer of LeBron James.

Ricki graduated from high school and pursued some college education. He was known for his love of family, his loyalty to friends, and his larger-than-life presence that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

For the last 14½ years, Ricki shared a loving and devoted relationship with his fiancée, Tanya Lortz. Together they built a life centered around family, love, and laughter. Ricki was especially proud of their six grandchildren, all of whom lovingly called him “Babo.”

Ricki was the proud father of two biological children, Shakayla Nash of Raton, New Mexico, and DeVandre Nash of Denver, Colorado. He was also a loving stepfather to Desmond Smith of Springfield, Missouri, and Dequan Smith of Rolla, Missouri. Desmond Smith’s significant other, Ricardo Hudson, and Dequan Smith’s significant other, Arianna Hudson, are also lovingly acknowledged. In addition, he shared a special bond with his niece, Ashya Gertler, who was like a daughter to him, and his nephew, Keeyan Gertler, who was like a son.

Ricki was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie R. Nash Sr.; his brothers, Ronnie R. Nash Jr., Jermaine Nash, and Benji Nash; and his stepson, Devin Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving fiancée, Tanya Lortz; his children, Shakayla Nash, DeVandre Nash, Desmond Smith, and Dequan Smith; his mother, Pamela Noble Young, and her husband, Herbert Young, whom Ricki proudly referred to as Dad; his brothers, Trevon Nash of Springfield, Illinois, and Julius Nash of Licking, Missouri; his beloved niece, Ashya Gertler; his beloved nephew, Keeyan Gertler; six cherished grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

Ricki was deeply loved by his family and respected by everyone who knew him. His laughter, stories, loyalty, and love for those closest to him will be remembered always. Though his earthly journey has ended, his spirit will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.

Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
