Richard Owen Chapman, 83, of Rolla, Missouri, went home to be with Jesus on January 23, 2026.
Richard was born on August 16, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Joseph and Margaret Chapman. He lived a life grounded in faith, family, and hard work, and those who knew him best will remember his steady spirit, kind heart, and quiet devotion to the people he loved. He was known for his selfless nature, always putting others before himself, and for his gentle, giving heart.
Richard worked in construction his whole life. A skilled carpenter by trade, he took great pride in his craftsmanship and believed in honest work done with integrity. He also served his country honorably in the United States military from October 1964 to October 1970.
When he wasn’t working or spending time with his family, Richard could often be found doing what he loved most—fishing. He was an avid fisherman who found peace and joy on the water, and many cherished memories were made with him by a riverbank or lake shore.
On September 11, 1994, Richard married Dottie June Chapman in Salem, Missouri. Together they shared many blessed years filled with love, laughter, and devotion to one another and to God.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his wife, Dottie Chapman; his son, Yancey Chapman (and wife Courtnee), Eddie Berry (and wife Theresa), and Robert Lohrer; his daughter, Cassandra Culver, Kimberly Haddock (and husband Kevin), Gidget Zakar (and husband John), and Vicky Mauzey, Cheryl Bowen;and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were a tremendous blessing in his life.
He is also survived by his siblings: Andrew Chapman, Raymond “Pete” Chapman, and Bernice Chapman.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Chapman; his first wife, Suranda Chapman; his second wife, Charlene Chapman; his brothers, Edward “Red” Chapman, Norman Chapman, David Chapman, and Paul Chapman; his sisters, Vivian Hartline, Norma Schur, and Zola Maylee; his beloved granddaughter, Suranda Culver; and his grandson, Joseph Cox.
Richard’s family finds peace and comfort in knowing he is now made whole, rejoicing in heaven, and reunited with loved ones who went before him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, selflessness, love, and integrity will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
