Peggy Louise (Jones) Hampton of St. James, Missouri went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 5, 2026, at the age of 89. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
Peggy was born on June 7, 1937, in Desloge, Missouri, to Dorothy (Denton) Sewell and Eugene Jones. In 1959, she met the love of her life, James Edmund Hampton. Their joyful courtship blossomed into marriage on March 23, 1962, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion and faith in Christ.
Peggy was a devoted mother to her three daughters, Roxana, Lori, and Jamie. She poured her heart into raising them. She encouraged their passions as well as modeled her faith and taught them the values of honesty, hard work, and kindness. One of Peggy’s greatest joys was being called Grandma, Maw Maw Peggy, and Great grandma. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and her home was always a place of welcome and love.
Peggy retired from the St. James School District where she worked as a janitor at the Lucy Wortham James Elementary for over 17 years. She was known for her hard work and her attention to details-always going above and beyond her duties. Most of all, she will be remembered for her friendliness to all. Her warm smiles and gentle words were encouraging to so many teachers, workers, and students.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Roxana Gray and her husband Mark who had shared their home with Peggy for the last few years; daughter, Lori Terstriep and her husband Greg of Bourbon, Missouri, and daughter, Jamie Jones and her husband Robert of St. James, Missouri. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Joshua Gray and his wife, Lauren; Deidra Brinker and her husband, Eric; Amanda Lindermann and her husband, Adam; Abbey Barker and her husband, James; Gracie Jones; and Leah Johnson. Each of them shared in the love, guidance, and steady example that Peggy gave so freely, and her memory will remain a cherished blessing in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Hampton; her parents, Eugene and Dorothy Jones; her brother, Sonny Jones; and her sister, Vickie Dawson.
Visitation will be 1:00 PM Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home with Lance Langenberg officiating.
Peggy will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God and her steady love for her family.
Memorials may be made to Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge at the First Assembly of God- Rolla. Cards will be available at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
