Nancy Roberta Hays passed away at her home in rural St. James, Missouri on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Nancy was 85 years, 11 months, and 30 days of age.
Nancy was born on September 24, 1922 in Brumley, Missouri to her parents: Greenberry and Charlsie (Helton) Pope. She was united in marriage to Winferd Hays on August 11, 1945 in St. Charles, Missouri.
Nancy was co-owner and operator of St. James Auto Salvage and was secretary of the business from 1976 to 1998. Foremost she was a MOM. She loved gardening, cooking and decorating. Where you saw one you also saw the other.
Nancy is survived by her husband of the home: Winferd Hays of St. James, Missouri; two sons: Winferd Hays, Jr. and wife Kathy of St. James, Missouri; Steve Hays and wife Tammy of Vichy, Missouri; two daughters: Sharon Logan and husband Irv of St. Louis, Missouri; Janet Gerleman and husband Dan of Cuba, Missouri; two brothers: Jim Pope and wife Kay of Fulton, Missouri; Joe Pope and wife Irene of Mexico, Missouri; five sisters: Ruby Monk and husband Virgil of Wendell, Idaho; Lucille Cobb and late husband Warren of Springfield, Missouri; Jean Bolton and late husband Dale of Kingdom City, Missouri; Dean Reed and late husband John of Kingdom City, Missouri; and Faye Humbird and late husband Ralph of Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister-in-law: Laura Pope of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren: Bryan, Dan, and Rachel; and five great-grandchildren: Whitney, Macey, Micah, Jesse and Joshua. Nancy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Preceding Nancy in death is her parents: Greenberry and Charlsie (Helton) Pope; two brothers: William and Robert Pope; four sisters: Mabel, Mary, Lena and Dorothy.
Services
Visitation for Mrs. Hays will be held from 4 - 8 PM on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 26, 2008 at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Baumann and Pastor Phil Cox officiating. Pallbearers will be: Mike Pope, Barry Maupin, Kenny Eastwood, Bryan Hays, Danny Hays, and Mike Gerleman. Honorary pallbearers will be: Micah Hays, Jesse Hays and Joshua Hays. Burial will be in the family plot in the St. James Cemetery in St. James, Missouri.
Memorials are suggested to the Phelps County Hospice or Alzheimers Association.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
