Obituary

Marvin Dale Coffman of St James, Missouri passed away Saturday evening May 25, 2024, at his home in St. James, Missouri. He was 81 years of age.

He was born August 28, 1942 in Bourbon, Missouri, the son of the late Edgar and Grace Miller Coffman Roberson. He was one of 12 children.

On November 4, 1967, he was united in marriage to his greatest basketball cheerleader, Miss Bobbie Taylor at First Baptist Church in St. James, Missouri.

Survivors include his beloved wife Bobbie Coffman of St. James, Missouri, one son: Clay Coffman of St. James, Missouri, one daughter: Carri Sullens and her husband Timothy of Burbank, California. Brothers: Charles Lavern Coffman, sisters: Catherine Wagner, Louise Heck, Margaret Risenhoover, Donna Wissman, and Wanda Starbeck, along with former daughter-in-law Melissa Middleton. Grandchildren: Jake Coffman, Eleanor Sullens, Harper Sullens, Seth Sobba, Julia King, Josie Sutherly, and Emma King.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Willard, Donald, and Harold and sisters: Geraldine Grueber and Terri Coffman.

Marvin loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed his trips in the mountains of Wyoming hunting elk and moose with his brothers. Growing up, Marvin was an all-star basketball legend and after high school, caught the eye of his cheerleader, Bobbie Taylor. He enlisted in the United States Navy and was trained as an electrician working in the engine room on the USS Eldorado during the Vietnam War. Bobbie reported that during Marvin's 4-year career in the Navy, he was motion sick most of the time. After returning from service, he was mentored in carpentry by Jake Moutrey. Marvin could fix anything from broken washing machines to building houses. He loved horses and broke horses in Wesco, Missouri. He was active at the First Baptist Church in St. James as a Deacon and served a term on the trustee committee. He helped build the bus garage at the church and went on mission building trips. Marvin was saved and baptized at the Calvary Baptist Church in Bourbon, Missouri.  He was a great servant, humble with a big smile and a friendly handshake. He will be sadly missed.
