Lucy Vona Haacke of St. James passed away Friday June 22, 2012, at the St. James Golden Living Center. She was 91 years of age.
Lucy Haacke was born August 4, 1920 at Sedgewickville, Mo., the daughter of the late Pearly Edward and Ella Catherine Hanners Seabaugh.
On January 16, 1958 in Rolla, she was united in marriage to William Louis Haacke. He entered into rest July 6, 1984.
Lucy Haacke is survived by two sister: Nadine Moreland of St. James and Audrey Peters of Pacific, Mo., Nieces and Nephews: Vickie Dixon and husband Mark, Randy Moreland and wife Roxanne and Tim Moreland and wife Paula and Nina Stewart and husband Mark, along with many other nieces and nephews.
Lucy Haacke is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 26 years, sister: Doris Green, along with brother-in-laws: Eugene Allen Moreland, Lloyd (Shorty) Peters and Buford Green.
Lucy Haacke grew up in south-east Missouri and for several years worked in Kansas City, Mo., at the Colgate - Palmolive Plant. After returning home to St. James she met and married Bill Haacke. Bill owned a farm east of town, Lucy loved the farm and loved being outdoors. Lucy and her husband always enjoyed a big garden. She enjoyed her coffee on the front steps watching birds and enjoying her flowers. Lucy and Bill traveled a lot, having one summer in South America where Bill worked in oil fields. Lucy was active in the St. James Order of the Eastern Star #235 where she was Worthy Matron in 1968. She spent many years making quilts, sewing cloths and wedding dress's. After Bills death, Lucy stayed active in many local volunteer positions. She was active at the Golden Age Center and was an Omsbudsman for the residents at the St. James Golden Living Center, she worked with the local veterans at the Missouri Veterans Home, and delivered meals at the St. James Golden Age Center, she not only worked with the seniors but with the young also, she taught students how to read at the Carahan Center in St. James. She also volunteered at the St. James United Methodist Church where she attened. She was known to all as Aunt Lou. She was a special lady, that gave from the heart.
Services
Lucy Haacke will lie in state Monday June 25, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.
Funeral Service will be conducted Tuesday June 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James with Amy Turner officiating. Pallbears will be nephews. Burial will be at the St. James Cemetery. Memorial may be given to the St James United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.
