Obituary

Lucille Elizabeth Marie McCracken of St. James passed away Friday July 27, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in St. James. She was 90 Years of age.

Lucille McCracken was born August 1, 1916 at Highland, Illinois the daughter of the late Henry and Elizebeth Schmidlen Ziegler.

On March 10, 1943 she was united in marriage to Melvin MCCracken. He entered into rest June 5, 1977

Lucille Mc Cracken is survived by one son James McCracken of St. James; along with two brothers Milton Ziegler of Alton, Illinois and Virgil Ziegler of St. Louis. along with two grandhildren and two great-grand children.

Lucille McCCracken was raised on a farm near Highland, Illlinois with four brothers. After marriage they moved to Edgar Springs. She helped with the farm work and had two vegetable gardens and provided 3 hot meals daily for her husband and son. In 1966, she started working at the new Edgar Springs school as head cook. She attended dietician seminars to be able to properly prepare lunches that met state standards. In 1971, the family sold the farm and moved to Rolla. Lucille worked two semesters at the Engineers Club preparing breakfast and lunch for UMR students. In 1972, she went to work at the Missouri Veterans Home as a baker. She was a dedicated worker as if the weather was getting bad, she would get a room and stay overnight so she would be able to walk to work. After her husband passed away in 1977, she decided to move to St. James to be closer to work. After 5 hip surgeries, she decided to retire from the Missouri Veterans Home. She enjoyed traveling with her friends until her health declined. She enjoyed traveling with her friends until her health declined. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers do, she would do whatever she could for her family.

Services
Lucille McCracken will lie in state from 6-8 pm Sunday July 30, 2007 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.

Funeral Services will be conducted 10 am Monday at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James with Ray Cook Officating. Burial will at the family plot at Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Greenville, Illinois. Memorial may be given to the St. James Golden Living Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.
