Larry Lester Yates of St. James passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022 at his home. He was 76 years of age.
Larry, the son of the late Henry Lewis and Laura Helen Tabor Yates, was born December 13, 1945 in Rolla, MO. He was united in marriage to Leona Mae Ellis Holt on November 10, 1984 in Rolla, MO.
Larry is survived by his wife, Leona (Mae)of St. James, MO; three sons: Tony Yates of Rolla, MO, John Yates and wife, Angie of El Dorado Springs, MO; and Donnie Holt and wife, Patricia of St. James, MO; four daughters: Donna Orten and husband, Kelly of Ogden, UT; Cindy Lloyd and husband, Allen of Strafford, MO; Teresa Holt of St. James, MO; and Terri Craft and husband, Danny of St. James, MO; 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, brother, Ronnie Yates of Doolittle, MO and Bill Yates of Shreveport, LA, several sister in laws and brother in laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Helen, infant daughter Kerri, brother Bob Yates; and sisters Judy Naugle and Pauline Hyder.
Larry started his working career at the young age of 14. He spent most of his career working in grocery stores in the produce section. He worked at Mace Supermarket in Cuba, MO as well as Country Mart in St. James where he was the produce manager for many years. In his earlier years, he drove a produce truck for Sherrals.
Larry's main goal in life was serving his country, serving God and loving his family. He served in Viet Nam, taught Sunday school, served as deacon and went on mission trips to Haiti. He was a quiet, dedicated servant of God.
Larry Yates will lie in state 6-8 PM Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Jones Funeral Home in St. James.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Jones Funeral Home with Brother Gary Bartle officiating. Pallbearers will be Tony Yates, John Yates, Jared Yates, Jarrett Davis, Dustin Craft and Travis Holt. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Holt, Jr., Trey Holt, Ty Yates, Danny Craft and David Hornbeck. Burial with Full Military Honors will be at Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens in Rolla, MO.
