Jerry Dean Spurgeon of St. James passed away Friday September 18, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was 68 years of age.

Jerry Spurgeon was born July 9, 1941, in High Gate, Mo., the son of the late Jewell Melvin "Butch" and Lucille (Sherman) Lortz.

He is survived by his son; Robert Dean Spurgeon of St. James and daughters: Paula Marin and husband Larry of Rolla and Toni Strait and husband Scott of St. James. One sister Betty Coleman of St. Louis, along with 4 grandchildren; Chris, Daniel, Nathan and Mark.

Jerry Spurgeon served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired from Yellow Freight Company having recieved the Million Mile award with no accidents.

Services
Jerry Spurgeon will lie in state from 5-8 p.m. Sunday September 21, 2009 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.

Funeral Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday September 21, 2009 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James with Aaron Jeffers officiating. Music will be provided by Don Chambers. Burial will be in the family plot at the High Gate Cemetery. Memorial may be given to the Leukemia Foundation.
