Jerry Albert Hanks of St. James, Mo., passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 13, 2014. He was 73 years of age.
Jerry, known by his family and friends as Pug, was born November 19, 1941 at Steelville, Mo., the son of the late Earl Woodrow and Frances Ann Hopkins Hanks.
On July 25, 1964 in Rock Island, Illinois, Pug was united in marriage to Jettie Watson. To this union, three children were born.
Pug, is survived by his beloved wife Jettie of St. James. Sons: Jerry Wayne Hanks and his wife Lorie of St. James and Paul Albert Hanks and his friend Gia Calvin of Rolla. One Daughter; Tina Marie Woolf and her husband Mike of Salem. Brothers Gary Hanks and his wife Sherrie of Lohman, Mo.; and Mike Hanks and his wife Chris of Camdenton, Mo.; Sisters: Sharon Thomas and husband Larry of Rich Fountain, Mo.: Patsy Hanks of Steelville and Debbie Harthill and husband Mike of Steelville, Mo. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren and 3 great-Grandchildren, along with sisters-in-law: Violet Hanks and Joyce Hanks both of Steelville, Kay Hanks of Sikeston, Mo.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Eugene, James, Earl Hanks Jr., Joseph and Delmar Hanks.
Pug spent all of his working life driving a truck or machinery. He drove an over the road truck for over 20 years and then worked for Phelps County driving a dump truck and operating a road grader. He then worked for Vick Gargus hauling sawdust and after that he worked for Mc Kennon, hauling clay. Pugs greatest love was his wife of 50 years, where you saw Pug you saw Jettie. Pug loved his grandkids and always had time for them. He enjoyed fishing and always had a story about the big one that got away. He enjoyed woodworking and had built boats, furniture porch swings and furniture that the family still uses. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services
Pug Hanks will lie in state from 4-8 p.m. Monday December 15, 2014 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.
Funeral Service will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday December 16th at the Jones Funeral Home with Brother Larry Martin Officiating. Burial will full military honors will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Steelville, Mo. Pallbearers will be Gary Hanks, Gary Hanks, Robert Watson, Frank Gibson, Wade Watson, Dalton Hanks, Dylan Hanks and Jeremy Stites.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.
