Obituary

Lora Jane Sbabo of St. James passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Rolla Presbyterian Manor in Rolla, Missouri. She was 90 years of age.

Jane was born August 2, 1932, to Louis T. and Stella Owens Micke and spent her childhood in the Owensville, Missouri area. On September 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to Mike Sbabo who preceded her in death on May 14, 2018. Also preceding her in death is one son, Terry Sbabo on January 27, 2016. Jane was a member of Solid Rock Christian Church in St. James.

Jane is survived by daughter-in-law, Sharon Sbabo of St. James; daughters: Jana (Jim) Wassilak of Rolla, MO and Jill Michaels of Orlando, FL; one son, Kent (Michele) Sbabo of St. James; nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Scott) Latzke, Jake (Lacey) Sbabo, Jessica (Dave) Roy, Aaron (Kacie) Wassilak, Dan (Emily) Wassilak, Heather (Steve) Winters, Andrew (Samantha) Young, Bethany (Aaron) Stratman, Alec (Jennifer) Sbabo; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Jane loved her family dearly; she spent many hours creating a loving home for Mike and her children. She adored her grandchildren, and she liked to keep up with their accomplishments. Jane loved art and design.  Her creativity was showcased in her fashion, in her home, in her talent for sewing, and in the family construction business. She was very active in the family business as the bookkeeper for the farm and managing the many apartments they had built and purchased throughout the years. Jane enjoyed traveling; she and Mike traveled across the states, including several trips to Florida, California, and Chicago, Illinois. She made many quilts for her children and great-grandchildren as well as making many quilts for babies of friends and neighbors. She liked to stay physically fit working in her yard and riding her bicycle around the community. Not long before her passing, she was able to meet the youngest of the family, a great-granddaughter. Jane was a Christian, and she followed the Gospel of Christ her entire life. Jane and Mike always opened their home to missionaries and ministers. She enjoyed church music, but she loved the more uplifting Christian spiritual songs. She and Mike attended church regularly until their health prohibited it. In later years, she often spoke of enjoying her life and how the Lord had been good to her, but she also longed to be with Mike and her son, Terry, and to go home to be with the Lord. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
