Obituary

Cleveland Eugene "Gene" Carr passed away at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri on Monday, September 10, 2007. He had been a resident since May 3, 2004. He was 88 years, 5 months, and 24 days of age.


Gene was born on March 17, 1919 to his parents Cleve and Grace (Martin) Carr in Vandalia, Missouri. On April 19, 1946, he was married to Margaret Kehl. To this union two children were born.

Gene grew up in Vandalia, Missouri and then lived in Mexico, Missouri most of his life before entering Missouri Veteran's Home in St. James, Missouri. He retired from the mainenance department at the Mexico Posts Office in 1985. He served in the United States Army during World War II at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. He was in the 14th Armoured Division. Gene was a member of the Church of Christ.

Gene is survived by his wife of the home: Margaret Carr of St. James, Mo.; two sons: Randy Carr and wife Connie of Belle, Mo.; and Rodney Carr and wife Orlena of Lawrence, Kansas; three grandchildren: Scott Carr and wife Lisa of Lebanon, Missouri; Cara Sankey and husband Keith of Freeburg, Missouri; and Ryan Carr of Lawrence, Kansas; one half sister: Carrie and husband Dalton Williams of Laddonia, Missouri; two step grandsons: Roy and Travis Williams of Lawrence, Kansas; six great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild; nine nephews; three nieces and sister-in-law Rosemary Kehl along with many friends and relatives. Gene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gene was preceded in death by one brother: Billie Joe Carr.

Services
Visitation for Gene will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2007 from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri and at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, Missouri on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 from 6 - 8 P.M. with additonal visitation 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. on Thursday morning, September 13, 2007.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the East Lawn Memorial Park in Mexico, Missouri. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park in Mexico, Missouri, officiating will be Mark White, Church of Christ minister from Centralia, Missouri.

Memorials are suggested by the family to the Liberty Church of Christ; P.O. Box 757, Belle, Missouri or Phelps County Hospice, Phelps Regional Homecare, 1202 Homelife Drive, Rolla, Missouri 65401.

All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri and Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, Missouri.
