Obituary

Erna Delores (Cornick) Kinkead, wife of the late Jams Alfred Kinkead, passed away Friday September 30, 2011 at the Golden Living Center of St. James at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 7 days.

Delores was born at home just outside St. James, Missouri on April 23, 1925, the youngest of ten children born to Walter H. and Leonora (Feldmann) Cornick.

She was baptized at the Morrison Camp south of St. James when she was about 13 years of old. She attended First Church of God in St. James for many years, and most recently at First Church of God in Salem where her son John is the pastor.

Delores graduated from John F. Hodge High, St. James in 1943. She had been a basketball cheerleader and good student. She was the only member of her family that finished high school and graduated with a diploma. She attended college briefly in Springfield, Missouri after graduation, then taught school for 2 years before her marriage. She was a Grape and Fall Festival attendant in 1946 just weeks before her marriage.

She was united in marriage to James Alfred Kinkead on November 17, 1946. They enjoyed 41 happy years together before he was taken too soon in 1987. To this union was born two sons, John Alan and Steven Dale Kinkead.

Delores was very active in the community, working with the Friendship Club to make quilts, provide meals at auctions, and reach out to neighbors with cards, cookies, and especially her pies. These pies were her claim to fame, and she had a box of blue ribbons to prove it. She continued to work in the community doing respite work until age 80.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James; two sisters, Dorothy Trettenero and Genovieve Krueger; six brothers, Walter Cornick, George Cornick, Alford Cornick and his still born twin, Marvin Cornick, and Don Cornick.

She is survived by her brother Leonard Cornick of St James, sons John Kinkead and wife Pat of Rolla, son Steve Kinkead and wife Teri of Omaha, Nebraska, 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, as well as many other family and friends.

All those who knew Delores will miss her and the entertainment she brought to every occasion.
