Donald Joseph Roy Sr. of St. James passed away November 28, 2013 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. He was 73 years and 15 days of age.
Donald Roy Sr. was born November 15, 1940 in Salem, Massachusetts, the son of the late Leo and Lauretta Dubois Roy.
He entered into marriage to Mary Darlene Ellis in 1973 at Orlando, Florida
Donald Joseph Roy Sr. is survived by his loving wife: Mary Roy of St. James. Sons: Donald J. Roy Jr. and wife Tami of Alfred, Florida; Robert Leroy Roy and wife Dianne of Minneola, Florida; Pastor Allen Smith and wife Kathryn of St. James. Two daughters: Cathy Turnbow and husband Roy of Monroe, LA; Lisa Ritter and husband William of Rossville, Georgia. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Donald Joseph Roy Sr. is preceded in death by his parents an several brothers and sisters.
Donald Roy Sr. served his country in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1964 as a Commandant.
Donald was a professional Chef, and he managed many restaurants in Louisiana and Florida. While managing a restaurant in Louisiana, a young lady named Mary worked for him and she soon became his wife of 40 years. Donald and Mary moved to Tallahassee, Florida. They lived there most of their life where Donald managed and cooked at many Florida Restaurants. Later in life he managed the front desk at a Sheriff's Office in Florida. Donald loved his kids and grandkids he enjoyed a special relationship with his wife. He loved to watch T.V. and drink his morning coffee. Donald suffered from lung cancer, and they decided to move to St. James to be close to their son and daughter-in-law Pastor Allen and Katheryn Smith. They had made St. James there new home only a few days before he became suddenly ill and passed away.
Services
Donald Joseph Roy Sr. will lie in state Tuesday December 3, 2013 from 6-8 pm at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.
Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 am Wednesday December 4, 2013 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James with Pastor Allen Smith Officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Flag Springs Church.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Mo.
