Obituary

Dr. David Andrew Bennett of St. James, Missouri, formerly of Bland, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025 at Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri. He was 85 years of age.

David, the son of the late David Leonard (D. L.) and Ruby Nell (McGaffin) Bennett, was born March 18, 1940 in Rolla, Missouri.

David is survived by his sister, Ruth Bullock of St. James, Missouri; nephews: Gene Branson and wife, Helen; Leonard Branson and wife, Michele; and Melvin Branson, Jr. and wife, Beth; Larry Bullock; Steve Bullock; nieces: Rita Richardson and husband, Larry; Marilyn Prudhomme and husband, Eddie; Tammy Wilson and husband, John; Lori Klaver; Terri Woodley; great nieces: Brooke Cook; Deborah Kleinheider; Rebecca Clark; Laura Richardson; Amber Abernathy and husband Chad; Aimee Giesing and husband Christopher; Ashley Wilson; Jessie Luther; and Lindsey Patton; great nephews, Tim Branson and wife Amy; Evan Branson; Matthew Prudhomme and wife Aimee; and Andrew Branson; great-great nieces: Madison Kleinheider; Abby Clark; Olivia Abernathy; Brittni Brosh; great-great nephews: Colby Kleinheider; Jacob Clark; Micah Abernathy; Owen Abernathy; and many others.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Branson and Arline Bennett; dear friend, Norma Wehmeyer; great-nieces, Megan Branson; June Branson; and Kaitlyn Artrip; and great-nephew, Jason Hadley.

After David graduated from John F. Hodge in 1957, he attended the School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri and School of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri. He later graduated from the Logan College of Chiropractic. He practiced chiropractic medicine for many years after establishing a clinic in Bland, Missouri.

He had a love for the outdoors, and he loved spending his time outdoors hunting. He liked to travel throughout the West to hunt prairie dogs; he also enjoyed hunting pheasants, quail, rabbits, and squirrels. After his hunting trips, he spent many hours reloading his spent cartridges.

David served his country in the United States Army for two years throughout Europe and Asia. His specialty was surveying, and he received the Marksman award for M-14 rifle.

David was a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home for the last six years. The family greatly appreciated the care given him by the staff.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.

Funeral services will be 12 Noon Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home. Minister will be Rodney Farthing, former hospice chaplain. Pallbearers will be Dave Simily, Ryan Hadley, Brice Hadley, Leo Branson, David Wehmeyer, and Dan Wehmeyer. Honorary pallbearers will be John Fadler and Randall Cahill.

Memorials may be given to the Missouri Veterans Assistance League or Patriot Guard.

Arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
