Obituary

Bettie Jane (Bowen) Jones of Hot Springs, Arkansas and formerly of St. James, Missouri for many years, passed away on August 30th, 2022. She was 89 years old.

Bettie was born on May 29th, 1933, in Bland, Missouri to the late Thomas Franklin Bowen and Sarah Elizabeth (Pruitt) Bowen.

Bettie married the love of her life, Donald Lee Jones on September 11th, 1955. Don and Bettie were high school sweethearts and were married for 67 years. In fact, Don and Bettie actually met at the tender young age of five in Sunday School class at First Church of God, St James. Once out of elementary and Jr High School, with the intent of being nurses, both Bettie and her twin sister, Bonnie, transferred to St. James, where the rest as they say is "History". They would be separated by two events during the course of their lives together, the Korean War of which Don was drafted and served two years, and then again for less than three months upon Don's death June 7, 2022.

Surviving Bettie are her children, Stephen Jones and April (Jones) Hunt (Coby), along with grandchildren, Tiara Jones, Caprice Jones and Zachary Mathews, and great grandchildren: Christian Gomez and Haley Underhill. Bettie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Delores Bowen, nieces: Susan Webb, Brenda Engel and Marilyn Williams and nephews: Mark Mosher and Jeff Jones.

Bettie is preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas E. Bowen, twin sister Bonnie June Mosher, Robert Lee Bowen (infant) and husband Don Jones along with nephew John Bruce Mosher.

Bettie's life was devoted first to her family and second to her career as a nurse. She worked in several areas of the profession, before retiring from Missouri Veteran's Home in St James. After her retirement, she and Don moved to Hot Springs, AR, where she continued to work as a nurse in home health, and also as a substitute nurse for First Step, a school for special needs children and adults. She also volunteered weekly at the Charitable Christian Medical Clinic, providing health care to those without insurance or means to pay for it. Bettie and Don also volunteered weekly at The Caring Place, a Methodist Church sponsored program providing respite care for individuals with Alzheimer's Disease. Bettie will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Bettie Jones will lie in state from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday September 6th, 2022, at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, MO.
