Amber's greatest joys came from spending time with her family. She and her daughter, Scarlet shared a very close bond; they loved exploring the beauties of nature whether it be along the river or hiking through the woods. Some of her favorite times during the summer was when she and Scarlet would go on float trips down the Meramec and other rivers near St. James. She always looked forward to camping trips with her best friend, Gin. Amber never went on a trip to visit her family without stopping along the rivers; she absolutely loved walking along the water's edge, even if it meant being late for dinner. She enjoyed planting a vegetable garden each year; harvesting the fruits of her labor brought her a lot of joy. She was passionate about her fishing; she liked trying her hand at different types of fishing. She learned how to catch catfish from her dad, but one fall she wanted to try her hand at trout fishing. Even though her dad didn't have the correct pole for trout, he rigged up one of his poles and sent her off to Meramec Springs. Amber, being a friendly soul and having the ability to carry on a conversation with anyone, soon struck a conversation with the lady fishing along side her. The lady took one look at her pole and proclaimed to her that she wouldn't catch anything with that pole. She graciously let Amber borrow one of her poles, and Amber pulled off something that her new fishing buddy had never even done. Within minutes, Amber caught a lunker, a 10 pound rainbow trout! Her catch was even recognized by the Missouri Conservation with a lunker patch. Amber's tender heart and love for nature led her to care for a baby deer in her home until it got too big, to feed every stray dog or cat in the neighborhood, and to feed and watch the birds. She collected dolphins over the years; she liked having reminders of the beautiful outdoors inside her home as well.
