Virginia Janet Underwood of Marshfield, Missouri formerly of St. James passed away on May 12, 2019 at Webco Manor in Marshfield. She was 92 years, and 10 days of age.
Virginia (Wikey) Underwood was born on April 28, 1927 in Cuba, Missouri, the daughter of the late John Samuel and Cora Mahala (Pease) Wikey.
She was united in marriage to Bernard Underwood in February 1952, in St. James, Missouri. Bernard was serving in the Air Force at the time. They started their family in 1954. After Bernard’s military service they moved to Springfield and then to Rogersville, raising 5 children. Her family and home were always her first priority. She worked many jobs after raising their family. Together Bernard and Virginia owned and operated the St. James Flagpole Company until retiring in 2004.
Virginia Underwood is survived by three sons: Tracy Underwood and wife Debra of Seymour, Missouri; Blev and wife Teresa Underwood of Red Lodge, Montana; and Mark Underwood and wife Connie of Strafford, Missouri; one daughter: Pam Bernatowicz and husband Steve of Toms River, New Jersey; along with seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Virginia leaves behind not only her loving family, but also a host of friends.
Virginia Underwood is preceded in death by her parents: John Samuel and Cora Mahala Wikey; her husband Bernard Underwood in 2008; one son: Gregory Underwood in 1980; and five sisters: Mildred K. Wikey; Gertrude Marklun; Margaret Carey; Winifred Tavener; and Hildred A. Richart.
Graveside services will e held on Wednesday, May 22,2019 at 11 AM at the Skaggs Chapel Cemetery in Bellle, Mo.
