Obituary for Raymond & Velva Breuer

Raymond Franklin Breuer, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away August 4, 2017. He was survived by his wife of 77 years, Velva Breuer; who passed away 30 hours later on August 6, 2017. Both were survived by: Two sons, Bobby (Faye) Breuer and Thomas (Sue) Breuer of Warrenton, Missouri; one daughter, Donna (Steve) Hardin of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Velva was survived by one sister, Darlein Duncan. They were both preceded in death by their parents. Raymond was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Coy Breuer and one sister, Eva Stewart; Velva was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Ferris. Both were preceded in death by two sons, Billie Breuer and Ronald Breuer; and one daughter, Sharon Meine. 

Raymond was born November 15, 1919 to the late Thomas and Minnie Mae (Agee) Breuer. Velva was born July 2, 1920 to the late Elmer and Amelia (Diestelkamp) Ferris. Both graduated from Bland High School. Raymond and Velva married January 27, 1940. He retired from Ford Motor Company in St. Louis in 1978. Velva was a homemaker. After retirement they moved to North Carolina where Raymond preached for the Warne church of Christ for 10 years. While living there, Raymond served as a volunteer firefighter, taught at a local college and was president of a local Gem and Mineral Society. After they returned to Missouri in 1994 they were active members of the Hallsville church of Christ, where Raymond served as an elder several years. Raymond loved studying and teaching the Bible. After Raymond and Velva moved to Boone Landing Retirement Community in Columbia, Missouri in 2013, he started Thursday evening classes called “Bible Study With Ray.” 

Funeral services for both Raymond and Velva Breuer will be held at Nilson Funeral Home, 5611 East St. Charles Road, Columbia, Missouri on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 4 to 8 p. m. and one hour prior to the funeral service, Friday, from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. James Missouri at 2:00 PM Friday, August 11, 2017.
