Raymond E. "Gene" Lewis

Raymond E. "Gene" Lewis of St. James, Mo. passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at his home in St. James, Mo., surrounded by his family.  He was 92 years, 3 months and 27 days of age.

Gene Lewis as he was know by all his family and friends, was born in St. James, on January 5, 1926 to his parents: Raymond E. and Elsie Asher Lewis  He was united in marriage to Norma Ruth Bagwell on September 22, 1951 in St. James.

Raymond Lewis was a life long resident of St. James and retired from Missouri Department of Geology and Land Survey in Rolla, Mo. Gene, was in the Navy from 1943 to 1947 serving his country on the USS Saratoga and the USS Leary. He earned the American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African Campaign Medal and The World War II Victory Medal. Gene worked for Skinny Johnson Dry Cleaners in Belle for a short time and then worked for Lenox Cleaners in St. James. He also worked on the Pipe Line when it went through Missouri.

Raymond Lewis is survived by his wife of 67 years: Norma Lewis; son: Randall Lewis and wife Mary of Cuba, Mo.; daughters: Lana Marcotte and husband Joe of Russellville, Arkansas; and Charla Kay Ash of Baton Rouge, Lousiana, along with eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Preceding Raymond Lewis in death is parents: Raymond E. and Elsie Asher Lewis; two brothers: Leslie Ervin Lewis and Theodore Lewis and one sister Ida Muriel Owens.

Visitation for Raymond Gene Lewis will be on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 6 - 8 PM at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Mo.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  at the Jones Funeral Home in St James with Alan Wynn officiating. Pallbearers will be:     Burial with full Military Honors will be in the St. James Cemetery in St. James. Memorials may be given to Veterans Assistance League.
