Laurence Edwin Williams of Rolla, Mo., passed away Thursday August 22, 2019 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Mo. He was 92 years of age.
He was born July 25, 1927 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of the late Elmer E. and Esther Stephens Williams.
On June 3, 1955, in Kansas City, Mo., he was united in marriage to Wilma D. Atwell.
Mr. Laurence Williams is survived by his wife of 64 years; Wilma D. Willliams of Rolla, Mo., brother: Robert A. Williams of BosisD’Arc, Mo., and sister-in-law, Juanita A. Mace of Rolla, Mo. Nephews: Jimmy Williams of Chicago, Il and Bruce Williams of Indianapolis, Indiana, nephews by marriage: Bill Livingston of Accola, Florida., David Mace of Rolla, Mo. Nieces: Laura and Joanna Williams; nieces by marriage: Carol Maxey of Holts Summit, Mo., Judy Eckert of Belle, Mo., and Brenda Kogan of Ferrelview, Mo.
Laurence Edwin Williams is preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Donald E. Williams and a niece: Cindy Renfro.
Laurence grew up in Kansas City, Mo. and worked as a clerk on the railroad before serving in the United States Army. In the military he was sent to Germany to fight in World War II. He received a Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal, and he had the honor of being a driver for a General. After returning home, he worked for the railroad for 20 years. He and his wife operated a real estate company and an insurance company in Kansas City, Mo. for many years. Later in life, they moved to Rolla, Mo., to be close to family. Laurence entered the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James where he received loving care. Laurence will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Graveside Services for Laurence Edwin Williams will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday August 26, 2019 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Waynesville, Mo., with Patrick Wilson, of the Salem Avenue Baptist Church in Rolla, Mo officiating. Patriot Guard Riders will escort Mr. Williams to the cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the U. S. Army. Memorials may be given to the Salem Avenue Baptist Church of Rolla, Mo.
