John Henry Meurer Jr.

John Henry Meurer Jr. of St. James passed away Sunday September 15, 2019 at the Frene Valley Nursing Home in Owensville, Mo. He was 91 years of age.

John was born May 14, 1928 in St. James the son of the late John Meurer Sr. and Florence Mitchell Meurer.

On March 1, 1948, in Arkansas John was united in marriage to Catherine Lucille Sieber. They had been married 71 years. Catherine passed away August 6, 2019.

John is survived by one son: John Meurer III and his wife Stephanie of St. James. Daughters: Sally Davis of Camdenton; Debbie Meurer of St. James, and Linda Ray and husband Jerry of St. James, along with Son-in-law: Walter Snelson. He is further survived by one brother: Frank Meurer of St James and Brother-In-Law: Ray Spurgeon of Belle, Mo., along with 8 grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren and 1 Great- Great Grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his dear wife Catherine Meurer, dear daughter Sherry Snelson, and sister June Spurgeon of Belle, along with 2 grandchildren Chrissy and Carl Wayne and one great-great grandson Jayce.

John and Catherine enjoyed 71 years together. During this time they lived in Gary, Indiana and John worked in the steel mills. Upon returning to St. James John invested in a sawmill business with his father. He later worked at the St. James Elevator and sold firewood to provide for his family. Later, he was self employed as a farmer and hauled gravel. He hauled livestock to the Stockyards in St. Louis, and  he aslo spread and delivered  fertilizer to the area farmers. John was the first dealer signed by Lange-Stegman Fertilizer Company. John was truly a family man. Nothing made him or Catherine happier than to work with their family on the farms. He was proud of his family heritage of name-sake, Johns was Jr. John's Dad was Senior (Sr.) Johns's son is the Third (III), John's grandson is the Fourth (IV) and great grandson is the Fifth (V).

John Meurer will lie in state at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday September 18, 2019 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday September 18, 2019 at the Jones Funeral Home with Dennis Spurgeon Officiating. Pallbearers will be J. Meurer, Jeffery Ray, Jerry Ray, Clint Snelson, Daniel Toosley, Bobby Reynolds , Chad Snelson and J. V. Meurer. Burial will be in the St. James Cemetery.
