Donald Romine Obituary

Donald Walter Romine of St. James, Missouri passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at his home. He was 88 years, 6 months and 26 days of age.

Don, the son of the late Robert Ely and Bessie Francis Wolfe Romine, was born on February 4, 1930 in St. Louis County, MO. He was united in marriage to Connie Lou Saladin on July 22, 1951 at the First Church of God in St. James, MO.

Don is survived by his wife, Connie of St. James; one son, Larry Romine and wife, Beverly of St. James and one daughter, Linda Spurgeon and husband, Norman of St. James; grandchildren: Jeremy Romine and wife, Heather, Courtney Mitchell, Ashley Lind and husband, Josh and Erin Spurgeon; great grandchildren: Cody, Gavin, Megan, Michael, Samantha, Chaz, Aubrey, Brynlee, and Cooper; two brothers: Louis LeRoy Romine of St. James and Clarence Richard Romine of Stratford, MO; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie Romine and two brothers: Elton B. Romine, Vernon Robert Romine, and Arthur Victor Romine.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. As a young boy, he worked hard on his family farm, often making concessions for the good of the farm and family. Soon after his twenty-first birthday, he was inducted into the United States Army on March 7, 1951; and a few months later, he was married to the love of his life, Connie on July 22, 1951. He and Connie spent most of the first five years of marriage apart while he finished out his stay in the Army. After being discharged from the Army, he and Connie began farming. He worked the farm along with his job at Intercounty Electric for 43 years. He started as a lineman, and he worked his way up to being a foreman for this area. In his spare time between farming and working at the electric co-op, he found time to garden. Many of his family and friends shared in his bounty each summer; he was a master at raising tomatoes, strawberries and cantaloupe. Don was a man of integrity. He stood behind his word, and he was willing to work as hard as needed to get the task done. Most importantly, he supported his family, church and community with a kind and gentle spirit that will be remembered for many years. He was a member of the First Church of God in St. James where he served on the church board as trustee. He was a sunday school teacher, youth worker, and sang in the choir. He was a huge supporter of the town’s athletic teams. Don was a great friend to many; family and friends loved his witty humor, silly rhymes and quotes.
