Shirley Mae Taber of St. James, Mo. passed away at the St. James Living  Center in St. James, Mo.  Shirley Taber was 80 years, 4 months, and 2 days of  age.

 

Shirley Mae Taber was born on May 19, 1936 in St. Louis, Mo. to her parents: Lawrence E. Sr. and Mayme E. Bohrer Byrd.  Shirley Byrd was united in marriage to Harrison C. "Korky" Taber on December 25, 1953 in Cook Station, Mo.  Korky entered into rest Taber passed away on June 19, 2014.

 

Shirley Taber is survived by two sons:  Faron Taber and wife Janet of St. James and Ronald Dean Taber of St. James; two brothers: Lawrence Edward "Bud" Byrd of St. James; William "Billy" Byrd and wife Myrna of St. James; sister: Barbara (Bohrer) Warner of St. James, Mo.; grandchildren: Christina, Michael, Jason, Summer, Sage, and Ken along with great-grandchildren: Matthew, Alex, Shelbi, Makayla, Lillianna; along with many others.

 

Preceding Shirley Taber in death is her parents: Lawrence E. Byrd Sr. and Mayme E. Bohrer Byrd; husband: Harrison C. "Korky" Taber ; brother: Charles Byrd; sister: Doris Bohrer; sister-in-law: Geraldine Byrd; and two grandchildren: Candace and Sarah.

 

Shirley loved her husband and family. Shirley met Korky through a friend at a fair in St. Louis were they were both living at the time, and were married in 1953, they enjoyed over 60 years together. Shirley worked as a seamstress and Korky  worked on the sewing machines.  Shirley and Korky loved the outdoors;  many years were spent fishing and hunting. Shirley also loved her flowers and painted beautiful water color prints of Meramec Springs. Shirley also loved her animals, her special cat named Wompis and her special Westie Dog.  Many times before going to sleep Shirley ate oatmeal cookies and milk and passed her habit to her grandchildren.  Above all, Shirley loved the Lord; she attended and worshiped at the First Baptist Church in St. James for many years. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 6 - 8 PM at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Mo.

 

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, at 2 PM,  September 24, 2016 at the Jones Funeral Home with Jerry Baumann officiating.  Pallbearers will be Michael Taber; Sage Kaufmann, Faron Taber, J.P. Maxwell, Ken Kaufmann, and Jesse Berry McKinnon. Music will be When They Ring Those Bells, Sweet Hour of Prayer; and Go Rest High On That Mountain with Stephen Brubaker the vocalist with Jeanette Ashley as the pianist.  Burial will be in the St. James Cemetery in St. James, Mo.
