Russell Hiram Davis

September 24, 1931 ~ July 27, 2016 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Russell Hiram Davis of St. James, Mo. passed away  on July 27, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in St. James.  He was 84 years, 10 months and 3 days of age.

Russell Davis was born on  September 24, 1931 to his parents: Charles Edmund and Mary Christiana Satterfield Davis in High Gate Mo.  Russell Davis was united in marriage to Patsy Sue Basford  on November 21, 1952 in Salem, Arkansas.

Russell was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  In his early work years, he worked at the International Shoe Factory and Kingsford Charcoal.  He retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years of service.  He, along with Mr. Burton, set up the first local postal routes in St. James.  He delivered to the businesses while Mr. Burton delivered to the outlying areas. In his later years, he delivered on the rural routes.  During inclement weather, he enlisted the help of his family to help place the mail in the boxes while he focused on the driving.  He loved talking about the history of High Gate and the community's families.  He enjoyed country and blue grass music, and in his younger years, he enjoyed picking his guitar with the locals at the High Gate store.  Cars, old and new alike, easily caught his eye; he was always ready to trade the newest mode.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter; he spent most of his outdoor time bass fishing and quail hunting.  He spent many hours reading and researching about his interests.  He served in the Army with the military police in Japan for 18 months.

Russell Davis is survived by his wife of the home: Patsy Sue Davis; sons: Gary Davis and wife Kathy of Springfield, Mo.; and Jeff Davis and wife Nancy of Owasso, Oklahoma; daughter Kathe Dougherty and husband Ron of Lawrence, Kansas; brother: Ralph Davis and wife Mildred of st. James, Mo.; and two grandchildren: Spencer and Andrew.

Preceding Russell Davis in death is his parents; Charles Edmund and Mary Christina Satterfield Davis and one sister: Olive Naramore and brothers: James, Anderson, Harrison, Chalres, John (Tinker) and Raymond Davis.
