Hansen John Rinehart of St. James, Mo. passed away at the Mo. Veteran's Home in St. James, Mo. on Friday, November 17, 2017. Hansen Rinehart was 95 years, 4 months and 15 days of age.

Hansen John Rinehart was born on July 2, 1922 to his parents: Augusta Matilda (Skouby) and Herchell Ezro Rinehart at Royal, Mo.

Hans was a store manager for Kroger's for many years. He was united in marriage to Fern Moreland. Hans was a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James since October 30, 2012. Hans served in the United States Army from November 10,1942 to February 12, 1946. He served on a tank corps and was on his way to Japan when the bomb was dropped. He was sent to the Philippines instead. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon and the AmericanTheatre Campaign Ribbon. After discharge from the Army, he was employed by Kroger for more than 30 years. He was married to Thelma Fern Moreland in 1955. He served on the Rural Fire Department board for 16 years. He loved to play soft ball and was a very good ball player. He played softball in St. James and was nonimated for Player of the Year. After he retired he drove school bus and said it was the most enjoyable job. Fern went along with him on the bus route. He bought horses, mules and ponies for his grandchildren. He loved to take his kids and grandkids on their first horse rides. Hans will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and fellow veterans and Missouri Veterans Home staff.

 

Surviving is his wife: Thelma Fern Rinehart of St. James, Mo.; sons: Randal Rinehart and wife Ann of St. James, Mo.; John E. Carter and wife Wendy of Rolla, Mo.; and Bruce Carter and wife Nancy of St. James, Mo.; brothers: James Rinehart, Thomas Rinehart and Jesse Rinehart and wife Betty all of St. James, Mo.; and Martin Rinehart and wife Patty of Rolla, Mo.; sister-in-law: Kathleen Rinehart of Cuba, Mo. Along with nine grandchildren: Angela and Jon Roberts of Leeton, Mo., Jennifer and Tommy Martin of St. James, Mo.; Erika and Brian Baker of Multon, Texas; Jessica and Ben Rivers of St. James, Mo.; Christy and Jim Wasmer of North Field, Vermont; Michael and Rachael Carter of Gravois Mills, Mo.; Kate and James Klotz of Fenton, Mo.; Rachel Carter of Rolla, Mo.; Sarah and Scott Veatch of Rolla, Mo.; along with 19 great grandchildren.

 

Preceding Hans Rinehart in death is his parents: Herchell and Augusta Rinehart, two brothers: Morris Branstetter and William Herschell Rinehart; one sister: Mary Catherine Frost; two sister-in-law: Mary Belle Rinehart and Frances Branstetter; and one brother-in-law: Garth Frost.

 

Visitation for Hansen Rinehart will be on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 6 to 8 PM at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Mo.

 

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 11 A.M. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Mo. with Lynn Huggins officiating; vocalists will be Sam Bunyard and Isaac Helterbrand. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in rural St. James, Mo.
